Craig A. Hoffman

Craig handles a wide variety of litigation and trial work.  He practices regularly in State and Federal Courts.  He has also tried numerous medical malpractice cases to verdict in Cook County and has tried several other cases to verdict in Illinois and many other states.

Craig began his career working for a plaintiff's litigation trial firm in Chicago, where he acquired substantial experience.  Since joining RSG, Craig has defended numerous clients in high exposure personal injury cases and medical malpractice cases throughout the United States.  His experience on the plaintiff's side has enabled him to obtain the most favorable settlements and verdicts for his clients.

Additionally, Craig has successfully mediated over 70 high exposure trucking and catastrophic negligence cases throughout the country, covering over twenty states, obtaining excellent results for his clients.  Craig also has substantial experience in Appellate Practice, and has authored several appellate briefs and Petitions for Leave to Appeal to the Supreme Court of Illinois.

Craig's case results include:

  • San Diego, CA - Plaintiff demanded $500,000; case settled for $50,000.  Plaintiff was a sub-contractor hired to lay concrete at a construction site.  He was terminated from the project and filed suit against the contractor.  Case was litigated for several years, ending in a mediation where plaintiff agreed to dismiss many of his claims.  After the mediation, plaintiff filed suit for bad faith and fraud among other things, and claimed that he had been forced into the previous settlement which he did not consent to.  Craig represented the sued party in the second suit. Plaintiff claimed over $175,000 in actual losses and damages.

  • Columbus, GA - Plaintiff demanded $620,000; case settled for $215,000.  Plaintiff was driving her vehicle and was struck in the rear by the insured's tractor trailer traveling at a high rate of speed.  Plaintiff suffered a detached retina, an aggravation of pre-existing degenerative disc disease, and a fractured right ankle which would require surgery in the future.  Plaintiff's medical specials were $48,000 and her lost wages were over $400,000.

  • Seattle, WA - Plaintiff demanded $1.5 million; case settled for $550,000.  Plaintiff was driving her vehicle and was struck in the rear by a vehicle that was struck by the insured's tractor trailer.  All three vehicles were totaled.  Plaintiff suffered multiple injuries and underwent three separate lumbar surgeries, as well as several cortisone injections.  Plaintiff's medical specials were $309,000 and her lost wages were over $100,000.  Prior defense counsel recommended a settlement of $800k, since the probable jury verdict would be $800k to $1 million.

  • Garden City, NY - Plaintiffs demanded $1.5 million; case settled for $350,000.  Plaintiff and her minor daughter were pedestrians in midtown Manhattan when they were struck by the insured delivery truck.  Plaintiff suffered knee injuries resulting in a microfracture surgery and an arthroscopic surgery, while her daughter suffered permanent facial scars.  The case was venued in the Bronx, NY.  Prior defense counsel recommended a settlement of $525k becuase of a likely jury verdict above $700k.

  • Philadelphia, PA - Plaintiff demanded $1 million policy limit; case settled for $687,500.  Plaintiff's vehicle was struck by a set of tractor trailer wheels that became loose and flew off of the truck and into plaintiff's windshield.  Plaintiff suffered serious injuries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries.  All of the defense IME experts and treating physicians called it "the worst case of PTSD" they have ever seen.
