Edward D. Mizera
Ed is an experienced litigation and trial lawyer, having tried
numerous cases to verdict. He has substantial experience on
both the plaintiff and defense side. While he primarily
focuses on commercial litigation, Ed has litigated in numerous
areas of the law, including personal injury, vehicular accident,
construction defect, workplace injury, premises liability, fire and
casualty loss, professional liability, and insurance defense and
coverage. He has successfully represented licensed professionals,
contractors, manufacturers, municipalities, transportation
professionals, healthcare workers and insurance companies in cases
ranging from small-claims matters to multimillion-dollar litigation
involving complex legal issues and numerous parties.
Ed's commercial experience includes representing companies and
corporate officers in all areas of corporate law, including
insurance claims, employment matters, wrongful termination,
restrictive covenants, defamation, and contract disputes. Ed has
represented multi-billion-dollar corporations and high net-worth
individuals across the country.
Ed also serves as corporate counsel for a number of businesses
and commercial clients where he regularly assists with internal
corporate matters, including contract review and negotiation,
employment and transactional matters, and corporate
governance.
Ed is a graduate of the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign (B.A.) and DePaul University College of Law
(J.D.), where he received a CALI Award for Academic Excellence in
the area of Pre-Trial Civil Litigation. During law school, Ed was a
law clerk for a prominent insurance defense and coverage firm in
downtown Chicago. He also studied International Business Law
at Vienna University in Vienna, Austria and International
Employment Law at the University of New York in Prague, Czech
Republic.

- Ed Mizera and Pat Cuisinier obtained a defense verdict on all
counts in the case ofFranco v. Richland Refrigerated
Solutions(2021-cv-00048), a case involving a trucking accident and
alleged damages over $1,200,000. The case was presided over by
Chief Judge James D. Peterson of the U.S. District Court for the
Western District of Wisconsin.
- Ed Mizera and Ed Ruberry obtained a directed verdict at trial
on all counts for their clients in the case ofLockwood v. HUB
International, et al. (2018 L 11814), a case involving a claim
under the Illinois Wage Payment and Collections Act. The case was
presided over by the Honorable Judge Michael F. Otto of the Circuit
Court of Cook County.
- Ed Mizera and Craig Hoffman obtained a verdict in Shaw v.
Holiday (2017 L 10786) that was #11 on Illinois' Top Verdicts in
2020 (https://topverdict.com/lists/2020/illinois/top-20-verdicts).
The case was presided over by the Honorable Judge Rena Van Tine of
the Circuit Court of Cook County.
